Patek Philippe Watches

History

Patek Philippe is one of the oldest and most renowned watch manufacturers in the world with an uninterrupted watchmaking history since its founding. Antoni Patek formed this regal watchmaking company with his fellow partner Franciszek Czapek in Geneva on the 1st of May in 1839. Patek eventually separated from Czapek over disagreements and joined French watchmaker Adrien Philippe, inventor of the keyless winding mechanism. This formidable duo made timepieces sought by royalty and notables including Queen Victoria of Britain, Queen Elizabeth II, Countess Koscowicz of Hungary, Pope Pius IX, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, John F. Kennedy, Nelson Mandela, Pablo Picasso, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Leo Tolstoy, and many more.

Since 1932, Patek Philippe has been owned by the Stern family of Switzerland. The Swiss luxury watch and clock manufacturer continues its legacy of exclusivity and impeccable quality to this day with production increases capped at a max increase of three percent per annum; only 62,000 timepieces were produced in 2018. Since 2000s, Patek Philippe timepieces repeatedly demonstrate their value fetching record-breaking prices in auctions worldwide. As of 2018, seven of the world’s top ten most expensive watches ever sold at auctions are Patek Philippe watches. The Patek Philippe Henry Graves Super complication currently holds the number one seat since it sold for 24 million USD in Geneva on November 11, 2014.

The Collections

Patek Philippe offers nine collections in its luxury timepiece inventory with a total of 173 models. The Complications, Grand Complications, and the Nautilus lines combine for over half of those models. A ‘complication’ in watchmaking is any function a mechanical watch performs beyond telling the time and simple date. Patek Philippe is the oracle on the knowledge and practice of this watchmaker’s art that is complication. The Grand Complications Collection is Patek Philippe’s showcase of its mastery of horological complications and has twice in the past century built the world’s most complicated mobile timepieces. Patek Philippe takes pride in its timepieces that each hold many lifetimes of artistry and skill. The less complex yet equally elegant Nautilus Collection sports octagonally shaped bezels, ingeniously constructed cases, and embossed dials. The Nautilus has been the sports watch choice of the sophisticated since 1976. The marvelous collection comprises of steel, rose gold, white gold, or two-tone combinations with models for men and women.
